First Area: Rocky Mountain, Virginia

We received a total of 7 emails today from Nathan (a lot of pictures).  I was online when I saw his email come in, and he was able to respond back to a few questions when I emailed him back.  Rocky Mountain, Virginia is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  It looks like nearby cities include Roanoke, VA and Greensboro, NC.  Also, I used to work in a writing lab in college.  Is it bad that I want to correct his letters?

From Nathan:

Sounds like things are going great! I got assigned to the Rocky Mountain, Virginia area. Me and my new companion, Elder Cowley, both got doubled in. (I emailed him back and asked what "doubled in" meant.  It means he and his companion are both new to the area.)  So these past few days have been interesting to say the least. I love this area. but more importantly I love the people. The members here have such a strong will to do missionary work. Which is great because that leaves us with a ton of time to go tracking and to find new investigators. The members also try there hardest to feed us every night which is great! This month there is not one date that we don't have a dinner appointment. So feed the missionaries back home! I'm sure they will be extremely grateful and they will bring such a great spirit into the home.  Everything is so beautiful here. Its outrageous. Elder Cowley is such a great guy. I like him a lot. My first lesson was with a guy named Dustin. He was previously taught by the other missionaries and they were able to commit him to be baptized but that was a year or so ago and our first day in town he called us and told us he was interested in coming back to church which was wonderful! Last night we challenged him to pray about a baptismal date and he said he would so we'll see what happens there.

Our other investigator, Betty, was taught my the missionaries before us and she will probably be baptized this Sunday! She is such a wonderful person and she understands the gospel so well. It is so humbling to be out here and see some of the living conditions of the people here. Some of them have so little but they give all they have to the lord. It is truly amazing.

I emailed him back and told him I googled Rocky Mountain, Virginia  and it looked like a beautiful and humble place to serve.  He emailed back the following:

Haha the only thing is my apartment is pretty bad. like worse than the one in Oklahoma. (We lived for one summer in an apartment in Oklahoma while Tim was doing some training with the FAA.  It really wasn't horrible, except that we shared a vent system with someone who smoked, and it was so small we had to put a mattress down in the hallway at night to have enough room for the kids.)

He also sent his mailing address:

265 Dent Street apt. 1
Rocky Mountain, VA 24151

(He said to use Priority Mail)

Then he sent more pictures:

Josh Hunderson was in my district at the MTC!!!  Look him up!  He's Peta in Hunger Games.
(Before we start any rumors, it's actually just a missionary with a similar sounding name.  I know because I was laughed at by the rest of the family when I showed them the pictures.)
Hangman, favorite MTC past time
