One Month (And Yes, We're All Counting)

A few pictures.  I love pictures!  And apparently he's in Rocky Mount, Virginia, not Rocky Mountain.  He is also in the same zone as the son of someone I grew up with in the small town of Malta, Idaho.  Small world!  And we'll all take on Nathan's conference challenge, and invite others to join in as well.

I'm guessing this is his companion, seeing how there probably aren't a lot of other young men in white shirts, ties, and boyish smiles in Rocky Mount, Virginia.

Dear family and friends,

Thank you so much for the emails. Its great to hear from every one! Things are going great! This week we were able to pick up four new investigators and put one of them on date for baptism. We were also able to contact at least a dozen potential investigators.  However we had to drop a progressing investigator, Dustin, that was sad. But the Lord prepares people in his own due time. Elder Cowley and I have been so busy this past week which is great because it just goes by that much faster.

This past Saturday was my one month birthday!!! It's hard to believe it's been one month. It feels like only yesterday I was headed to the MTC. You know what they say, time fly's when your having fun.

The highlight of my week this week was probably going to specialized training on Wednesday in Roanoke. The whole zone was there as well as the mission president. We mainly discussed how we could use family history in finding people and in lessons. It seems like the church is pushing hard for people to do family history. So go do family history. We are promised that by doing so we will grow closer to our ancestors and in turn grow closer to the Lord. We were also able to watch a pre-release of the new Meet the Mormons movie. It is such a great film and I would recommend it to anyone. Member or nonmember.

The people here are just simply amazing. They don't have a lot but they are so down to earth and are so genuine and humble in all that they do.The members are truly something special. They give everything they have to the lord and to his work. I think the whole time I've been here I've only gone one day without a member feeding us dinner.

Elder Cowley is such a great trainer. I know if I get to be half the missionary he is I'll be doing good for myself. It was also cool because his one year date was the same day as my one month date.

My testimony has grown so much from being out here. But one way it's grown in this past week was yesterday when we went to go see a less active member. He has terminal lung cancer and has a hard time to say the least. But he is so strong. It is truly outstanding to me how some one so weak can have such a strong foundation of faith in the gospel. Not only is it incredibly humbling but it is also incredibly inspiring for me to do better as a disciple of Christ.

With General Conference coming up I would challenge you all to read as many talks given to us this last conference as you can in order to prepare your selves for this weekend. I know that by doing so you will be able to gain more out of the conference.

I love this Gospel and I love what it has done for me in my life. I love and miss you all.

Oh yeah and tell grandma and grandpa that Elder Higley, the one from Malta, is in my zone.
