A member in the branch Nate works in has a photography business and offered to take "ugly sweater" pictures Nate could send home. When I got these pictures, I emailed back to Nate, asking him how they got him to pose (something we've never been able to get him to do). He said, "No idea. I just figured the sooner I did it the sooner it would be over and the sooner we could get on with P- day."
He also sent this picture. He said it was taken at a place called West Lake in Virginia.
Friends and family,
Merry Christmas!
This week has been great! I don't even know what happened to it! The highlight of the week was on Monday. Elder Cowley and I were walking back to our apartment from the library. We have walked to and from the library countless times before. And we knew the neighborhood like the back of our hand. Elder Cowley was walking in front and I was right behind him. Instead of turning on the road that would take us back to our place we just kept on going. We both had no idea that we had missed the turn. After walking a few blocks we realized that we has missed the turn. So we turned around to go back. And right before we crossed the street to get to our apartment a guy stopped us and asked us if we were Mormons. We both immediately thought "Oh great, this guy just wants to argue with us." However after talking with him for a while we found out that he was from Utah! So like every good missionary would, we invited him to learn more about the message that we share. He said that he was and he gave us his phone number and we have been able to meet with him, and his family, twice since than! I know that if we hadn't of missed that turn we would have never met that guy! Miracles are real!
Can I just say that Christmas as a missionary is the best! I mean it has it's draw backs, but I think that it helps to remember the true meaning of Christmas. Sure the songs, the trees, the sales, the gifts, the snow, the eggnog, the gingerbread, the candy canes, and Santa Clause are all great! But the true meaning of Christmas is in the name, Christ, without him there would be no Christmas. Yesterday we had a lesson in church on the Christmas story. During the lesson it hit me like a ton of bricks. Jesus Christ, our savior and redeemer, the prince of peace, the King of kings, the only begotten Son of the Father. Was not born in a mansion, or in the company of people of authority. He was born in a stable, with shepherds as witnesses to his miraculous birth that would end up changing the world forever. How humbling this is. So I would challenge you all to remember the savior this holiday season. For some it is easy, but for others it might mean making some sacrifices this holiday season. But great blessings are in store and can come from remembering our Savior this Christmas season!
I love you all and I am thankful for everything that you have ever done for me!
